BREAKFAST AT THE TOP
Different panorama restaurants all over Vorarlberg offer breakfast deals in summer. Enjoy homemade cakes and strudels at beautiful sun decks with great views in 2,000 metres. Try the panorama-summit restaurant Schafberghüsli in Gargellen (breakfast on Tuesdays and Saturdays) or the breakfast at Kriegeralpe near Lech organised by Burg Hotel Oberlech (on Sundays).
ATTEND A FUNKEN FIRE
At the end of February the Vorarlbergs inhabitants build high towers of wood and burn them to banish the winter. This event is called Funken and is celebrated with mulled wine, sausages and a special form of doughnuts. Find all dates at wohintipp.at.
Feldkirch features a beautiful old town, that was featured in the James Bond movie Quantum of Solace. Landmark of the city is the Schattenburg (Shadow Castle), where you can learn about the city’s medieval times and eat the biggest Schnitzel (breaded escalope) in Vorarlberg.
SILVRETTA CLASSIC RALLYE
Silvretta is the highest mountain range in Vorarlberg and home to the highest mountain, Piz Buin (3,312 m), as well as two glaciers. It is popular for hiking in summer and ski touring in winter.
Silvretta Hochalpenstraße – the curvy toll road to the top – is loved by motorcyclists and it is also the destination of the Silvretta Classic Rallye. An annual event, that draws vintage car lovers from all over the world to compete against each other at one of the most beautiful mountain roads in the Alps. Enjoy the drive and the beautiful view of the reservoir at the top.
The Rappenlochschlucht is a beautiful canyon near Dornbirn you should visit after rain. It is a nice walk through the narrow canyon.
Right before entrance you will also find the world’s largest Rolls Royce Museum. Take a guided tour and learn about celebrities, car owners and technology of the luxury cars.
FUN AT GOLM
Golm in Montafon offers great ski and sleding fun in winter, but you should try the summer fun, too. Besides hiking in the beautiful mountain scenery, you can drive the Alpine Coaster down to the valley, fly over a reservoir with Flying Fox, learn how to climb or explore the high rope course.
The KäseStrasse in Bregenzerwald is not a real road made out of cheese. It is a worldwide unique network of over 200 farmers, restaurant-owners, craftsmen and traders from Bregenzerwald all aim to preserve the landscape and products from the region.
